Becoming Certified FAQs

Q: Where can I find the requirements for becoming a TAT Professional (or Trainer)?

A: Just click here. After reading this page, be sure to click on “Requirements for certification as a TAT Professional” towards the bottom of the page.

Q: How long do I have to complete the Certification Program?

A: There is no deadline for completing the Certification Program. You and your Trainer may decide that you need to attend a Basics workshop again to be fully current if you take time off from the Certification Program.

Q: When do I need to apply to the Certification Program?

A: We recommend that you submit your application for the program as soon as you are sure that you would like to become certified. You'll get access to the Student Resources section of the website, which includes a short welcome video from Tapas, information on how to find a Buddy, forms for the certification process, a forum for communicating with other Students, and more.

Registering for the program also locks in the requirements so that if any new requirements are added, you are only responsible for fulfilling the ones in place at the time you applied.

Q: If I don't submit my application until after I take the Basics workshop, am I supposed to take it again?

A: No, you don't have to submit your application before doing anything else, but we do ask that you submit it once you are sure you want to be a Professional or Trainer.

The requirement is to attend one workshop on the Basics of TAT (at least 10 workshop hours) within the last 3 years given by a certified TAT Trainer or Tapas Fleming.

Q: What happens if a Trainer doesn't feel a Student's ready for certification after they've completed all the requirements?

A: The Trainers help Students acquire the skills and understanding required to do a good job. The Trainer and Student work together to make sure the Student has met the certification standards. The Trainer-Student relationship is set up to be a collaborative venture.

Q: Can the entire Certification Program be completed through distance learning?

A: Yes.

Q: I want to do this program, but it costs a lot for me. How could I do it for less?

A: With our Certification Program, you can proceed at your own pace as time and money allow. You can borrow DVD’s and CD’s from friends. You can do mostly group consultations. You can offer to do a trade with a Trainer – you might have a skill they need or set up a workshop for them.

Q: Can Trainers and Professionals use their discounts to buy things and then sell them to their clients, etc?

A: Yes.

Weight Loss

Kaiser Permanente's Center for Health Research has received a $2.1 million grant from the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine to study the effectiveness of TAT.

"The Tapas Acupressure Technique did show superiority in helping people maintain weight loss in a pilot study involving 90 participants," says Charles Elder, MD, principal investigator and an internal medicine physician at Kaiser Permanente Northwest. Click here to read the complete article.
